A solar project on this vast scale will impact:
Our communities:
The proposal surrounds our homes and villages with large solar fields, on an entirely inappropriate scale.
Our landscape character:
The proposal would turn a peaceful, expansive landscape into a semi-industrial, utility-grade power complex in an area which is designated as an Area of Great Landscape Value. There is the addition of inverters and battery storage which create noise pollution with industrial noise of twice the level considered a ‘significant adverse impact’ causing a negative effect of amenity for everyone.
Our views:
The solar arrays are proposed to a maximum height of 4.5 meters (including mounting structures). The fields will have security fencing and pole-mounted CCTV surrounding it. The project will destroy our current views of open countryside.
Our wildlife and biodiversity:
This area is a priority and strategic zone for several protected species. It contains a core woodland area, with ancient woodlands and nature reserves, including the lost temperate rainforest at West Muchlarnick Farm, (east of Pelynt) It plays a crucial role in the Cornwall Infrastructure Plan for biodiversity.
Our local heritage:
The area is home to many heritage assets, including listed buildings and historic monuments, many of which will be directly impacted by this project. These include the Iron Age Settlement on Bury Down and the Giants Hedge in Lanreath. The site is close to one Grade 1 Listed property, six Grade II listed and one Grade II *Property.
Our food security:
The project will result in a significant loss of arable land and agricultural productivity in our area. This will negatively impact food security.
Our environment:
The project is proposed for 50 years, but solar panels only have a lifespan of 25-30 years. All infrastructure will need to be replaced during the project's lifespan, causing significant waste and disruption. There are also risks of noise, light, chemical, and vibration contamination.
Our roads:
the proposed construction sites are on roads or lanes unsuitable for HGVs. The proposal will result in a significant increase in heavy traffic during construction.
